This year, Brian and I decided it would be a lot of fun to run one of the many turkey runs in the city. Since I help with a local running club, we decided to do the race they sponsor and I volunteered to help set everything up. It was a lot of fun and the day turned out to be perfect!
Before the Thanksgiving day run I hadn't run a official 5k since the hot as heck one in July. I ran that race in 34 minutes and vowed from that moment on I wanted to get an under 30 minute 5k. As I trained more and more for the half in October I realized my pace was increasing and I needed to sign up for a 5k.
I signed up thinking this run was pretty flat, apparently flat is totally different when you are driving a car than when you are running! It had a pretty nice increase the second half of the race so I didn't really prepare well and kind of jumped the gun on my pace from the start.
In the end I am totally happy with my time and cant believe how much time I shredded off from my last run. I also managed to work my way up in the standing and barely made it into the top third of my age group. According to the race stats, I finished in 27:56 and was 33/112. I manged to drop 6 minutes off my PR best and I have a feeling I could have done a bit better if my managed my time a bit better in the beginning.
All in all this run was so much fun and I enjoyed every minute of it! Races are starting to slow down a bit here in Kansas City so I might just be doing some fun runs with the running group!
Do you have any races you are excited for in December?
